MabCent-SFI is a Centre for Research-based Innovation established by the Research Council of Norway and hosted by the University of Tromsø.

MabCent-SFI started up in March 2007.

The field of research is within marine bioprospecting i.e. to analyse for and characterise bioactive compounds from Arctic and sub-Arctic marine organisms with potential for further research, innovation and commercialisation. The interdisciplinary activities within the centre are carried out in close cooperation with national and international R&D institutions and the MabCent-SFI commercial partners

MabCent-SFI integrates various disciplines and partnerships of academics at the University of Tromsø and expert enterprises , acting in a consortium. The consortium covers the pipeline from biology of marine resources/species through screening and research on bioactives to commercialisation of drugs and biotechnological and nutraceutica l products.

The management of MabCent-SFI and laboratory facilities for marine resources, extraction, fractionation and screening are established in the Tromsø Science Park. In addition, scientific work is carried out at the various university departments including technical platforms a nd other relevant facilities at UiT and at the commercial partners laboratories when appropriate.
